My Favorite Candid Wedding Moments of 2019

Your Candid Wedding Photographer in Connecticut

Candids are a huge part of my wedding day photography coverage. Real moments and genuine emotions are SO important, and catching that authentic smile or single tear of happiness is my favorite part of my job. I am always incredibly honored to be chosen to capture these memories for my couples. 2019 was an amazing year, filled with even more amazing weddings and elopements! Here is a collection of some of my favorite candid moments from the year.

Megan and Evan’s wedding at the Branford House in Groton, CT

I already knew Megan and Evan loved dancing when they slow-danced in their beautiful farmhouse kitchen together to their first dance song during our engagement session. (They picked You Send Me by Sam Cooke, you guys. My little romantic heart was melting!) But these two REALLY love dancing! They were tearing up the dance floor all night long at their July wedding, held at the beautiful Branford House in Groton, CT. This is just one of many shots from the night featuring their sweet moves. I love it when my couples kick back, let loose, and have fun at their weddings - that’s what it’s all about!

Sarah and Radik’s intimate wedding at Iron Forge Inn in Warwick, NY

Did you know that it’s a tradition at Russian weddings to yell ”Gorka!” at the newlyweds? It means “bitter”, and means that they have to kiss (to change the bitterness to something sweet!) Sarah and Radik created custom Gorka shot glasses as favors for their guests at their intimate September wedding at the Iron Forge Inn in Warwick, NY. Then they used them to visit each guest table and do a celebratory shot together! Capturing unique traditions, and the ways that couples make their wedding receptions their own, is so much fun.

Liza and Ashley’s wedding at the Mystic Aquarium

Liza and Ashley’s wedding at the Mystic Aquarium

This is a two-part favorite: the tears falling on Liza’s father’s face as they danced together for her daddy-daughter dance, and her mother’s emotions as she watched them. Liza and Ashley’s beautiful wedding at the Mystic Aquarium in November was so filled with love and family, and I definitely got a little bit misty behind my camera during this moment ❤︎

Taylor and Bart’s wedding at Omni Mount Washington Resort in Mount Washington, New Hampshire

The Hora always means fantastic reaction faces, and Taylor and Bart definitely delivered: Bart seems happy to be up there, but Taylor looks a bit worried! Their gorgeous wedding at Omni Mount Washington Resort in the White Mountains of New Hampshire was so much fun, and a perfect match to their personalities - laid back, artistic, fun, and full of joy. I will always be right there on the dance floor to capture all of the awesome moments just like this one!

Emma and Brian’s wedding at The Pavilion on Crystal Lake, Middletown CT

Speaking of dance floors - Brian’s grandma surprised everybody by getting up to cut a rug! She was SO happy to be dancing with her grandson and his new wife Emma at their September wedding at The Pavilion on Crystal Lake in Middletown, CT. Capturing these joyful moments with family members is such an important part of wedding photography, and these will be the memories that you look back on for decades to come.

Cassidy and Hannah’s adventure pre-elopement session in Iceland

Cassidy and Hannah’s epic pre-elopement adventure session in Iceland was an absolute dream come true, and this candid moment was so perfect. I turned around to swap camera lenses, and when I turned back, they were just wrapped up in one another, taking in the dramatic Icelandic surf on the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, enjoying the moment and thinking about the incredible adventure they were on. It was such a powerful moment, and one of the many reasons that I LOVE elopements.

Claire and Alex’s wedding at Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT

This was Claire’s mom’s reaction when she saw her daughter in her wedding gown for the first time, and trust me, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. She was overwhelmed with happiness, and it was so moving. Claire and Alex’s sweet July wedding in Darien, CT had many family ties, including their ceremony at her family church with portraits on the front steps. Seeing how my clients incorporate their family traditions into their wedding days, and helping them make that vision come to life, will never get old ❤︎

Lydia and Ryan’s wedding in Maryland

And finally, I had the immense honor to photograph my sister’s wedding this September in our home state of Maryland. Being able to document Lydia and Ryan’s celebration was so special, and of course my adorable nephew Jamison totally stole the show in this moment. Just look at that chubby little baby smile! (I might be biased because I’m his aunt, but I think he is the cutest little ring bearer I’ve ever seen!)
